The Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance & Rescue Squad (LNHARS) operates a K-9 Search and Rescue Unit dedicated to locating missing persons and assisting in specialized search operations.
Established in 2015, the unit is made up of certified handlers and highly trained dogs skilled in air-scent tracking, wilderness search, water recovery, cadaver search, and collapse structure search. The team trains regularly to maintain readiness in navigation, survival, communications, first aid, and canine handling.
K-9 teams respond to requests throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Deployments are coordinated through official agencies including local, state, and park police, fire departments, and county emergency services.
All dogs and handlers are certified through nationally recognized organizations such as FEMA, SUSAR, USPCA, and SARC-NJ.
The unit is supported through public contributions. Members often provide their own equipment and cover many personal expenses. K-9s are owned and cared for by their handlers.
