Marine Rescue

The Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad maintains a marine response capability along the Delaware River, supporting emergency operations in a unique, cross-state service area.

While water rescue resources have expanded regionally over time, our team continues to operate and maintain rescue boats as part of our commitment to comprehensive emergency response.

Our marine unit supports search, recovery, and water-related emergencies, working alongside partner agencies to ensure coordinated response on both sides of the river. Our marine program reflects decades of service on the Delaware River and continues to play a role in our response capabilities today.

The Marine Rescue division is ALWAYS looking for more members. No experience is required! For more information about our unit or how to start the application process, please contact Water Rescue Captain, Joseph Hornsby at Joseph.hornsby@lnhars.com

Stay Safe on the River

Warmer weather brings more people to the Delaware River—and with it, more emergencies. A few simple precautions can make all the difference.

  • Wear a life jacket — even strong swimmers can be overcome by currents
  • Know the current — the river may look calm but can move fast beneath the surface
  • Avoid wing dams — submerged rock structures that create strong, unpredictable currents
  • Stay clear of dams and spillways — powerful undertows can pull even experienced swimmers under
  • Keep a close eye on children — always within arm’s reach near the water
  • Watch your footing — rocks and riverbanks are often slippery and unstable

If you’re unsure about river conditions, it’s always safer to stay out of the water.
